Baked Ziti
Simple baked Italian dish of pasta, spaghetti sauce and cheese.

Recipe by Paul Mayville

This recipe uses spaghetti sauce, pasta and cheese in a slightly different way. Baking this dish gives a new taste to familiar ingredients. You can, of course, use any spaghetti sauce but you'll have better results using a home made version than the stuff out of a jar.

Also, you can use this as a base to which you can add other goodies like sausage, ground beef and/or pork, meatballs, mushrooms, etc.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried ziti pasta
  • 4 cups spaghetti sauce
  • 16 oz. fresh mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cubed, 1/2 thinly sliced
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 F. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and transfer to an oiled 9 x 13-inch baking dish or 3 quart casserole. Add spaghetti sauce and cubed mozzarella, and stir/toss until well combined. Cover with sliced mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and bake until lightly browned and hot, about 30 minutes. Serve immediately.
