Jalapeno Pinwheels
Spicy wheels of jalapenos, ripe olives, pimientos, and smoked turkey wrapped in a flour tortilla.

Recipe by Paul Mayville

When you serve these delightful appetizers for the first time don't be surprised at the speed with which they disappear. Once, when I underestimated the number of guests I would end up with, a loud argument broke out at the buffet table. When we finally broke it up and settled everyone down we found out that the participants had been fighting over the last pinwheel!

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup pickled jalapenos, chopped
  • 1/2 cup ripe olives, chopped
  • 1 (2 oz.) jar pimientos, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon Marie Sharp's hot pepper sauce
  • 3 large (10 inch) flour tortillas
  • 3/4 pound roasted turkey, sliced thin

Directions

In a mixing bowl, add softened cream cheese, jalapenos, olives, pimientos, garlic powder, chili powder, and hot pepper sauce. mix until cream cheese has a smooth consistency. Spread on one side of each tortilla leaving a 2 inch space at the top of each tortilla since the ingredients creep up during rolling. Top with turkey slices and roll up tightly.

Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Remove from refrigerator and cut into 1/2 inch slices.

Yields approx. 30 appetizers
